BIOAZUL participates in Expo AgriTech 2024, the leading agricultural innovation and sustainability event

From November 26 to 28, BIOAZUL took part in the first edition of Expo AgriTech 2024, held in Málaga. This event, which has become the largest gathering focused on agricultural technology and sustainability, welcomed 7,829 professionals from the agri-food industry representing more than 15 countries.

During this international event, we had the opportunity to showcase some of our most significant projects related to circular water economy and the use of reclaimed water in agriculture, reinforcing our commitment to developing innovative solutions to today’s water challenges.

Our participation in Expo AgriTech 2024

Part of our team was present with a stand dedicated to BOOST-IN, a project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe program. This initiative promotes circular water economy solutions (WACES) to address critical issues such as water scarcity and resource management. Over the course of three days, we presented our progress in mapping and characterizing innovations, a crucial step to ensuring impactful solutions in the project’s target regions.

Additionally, our colleague Ángela Magno, BOOST-IN’s project coordinator, participated in the fair’s Demonstration Area, providing a deeper look into the project’s objectives and achievements so far.

On another front, Rafael Casielles joined the Andalucía Agrotech forum, which focused on sustainability and resource management in the agri-food sector. Rafael highlighted the extreme drought conditions affecting the Axarquía region and presented the work carried out by the Axarquía Sostenible Operational Group, including the implementation of an innovative water regeneration and fertigation system aimed at enhancing sustainability in the area.

A fair driving innovation and sustainability

Expo AgriTech 2024 stood out for its focus on innovation, with 405 experts participating in its congress to explore the impact of advanced technologies like generative artificial intelligence, digital twins, blockchain, drones, and robotics in agriculture.

Another key topic was regenerative agriculture, which aims to tackle Europe’s soil degradation issues (affecting up to 70% of soils) and boost biodiversity. The forum also addressed the integration of new energy sources in farming, opportunities under the latest CAP, and the challenge of generational renewal in the sector.

In the exhibition area, the fair showcased 566 innovations presented by 171 companies, underscoring the transformative potential of technology in agriculture.

With the success of this first edition, Málaga and Andalucía have firmly established themselves as European hubs of agri-food innovation, and BIOAZUL is proud to have contributed to this landmark event.
