Next Bite 2024: Showcasing the Future of Sustainable Food Systems

Reading time: 2

BIOAZUL had the privilege of participating in Next Bite 2024, the largest event organized by EIT Food to date, held in Rome. The event brought together nearly 1,000 attendees, including experts, startups, innovators, and stakeholders from across the globe, all committed to reshaping food systems for a sustainable future.

Our CEO, Antonia Lorenzo, took the stage to present “The Role of Water in Transforming Food Systems” in the Marketplace area. Her presentation emphasized the essential role that water plays in sustainable food production, highlighting BIOAZUL’s commitment to advancing water-efficient technologies and circular solutions that directly impact food resilience.

We also had the opportunity to present a poster on our CHOICE project, which drew significant interest and allowed us to share experiences with other EIT partners.

In addition, we joined several strategic meetings and discussions:

  • Regional Strategy Advisory Council: Antonia as Supervisory Board member for EIT Food South and our colleague Angela Magno as committee member contributed to discussions aimed at strengthening regional food initiatives and fostering cross-collaboration.
  • RIS Fellowship Program Meeting: Together with coordinators from the University of Warsaw, we discussed upcoming goals and strategies for the fellowship’s impact in 2025.
  • Kitchen Adventure Project: We met with some of the consortium partners to finalize a communication strategy to support upcoming school initiatives, aiming to engage young students in food sustainability from an early age.

Event Highlights Aligned with BIOAZUL’s Work

Next Bite 2024 was packed with inspiring moments and presentations that resonate with BIOAZUL’s mission:

  • The event featured discussions on regenerative agriculture, emphasizing how food production can work in harmony with nature—a principle central to BIOAZUL’s work in sustainable water and soil management.
  • Talks on circular economy approaches encouraged innovations that make use of food waste, reflecting our commitment to integrating sustainable practices across the food system.
  • Innovations in food technology, such as alternative proteins and microbiome applications, were spotlighted, showcasing solutions that are reshaping our food landscapes for both people and the planet.

Our presence at Next Bite 2024 allowed us to reinforce our dedication to sustainable food systems, expand our network, and actively participate in critical discussions that will drive future advancements. We look forward to turning the insights gained into impactful projects and collaborations.
